Action Alert: Call Your Representatives Today and Urge Them to Vote NO on the American Health Care Act!

House Republicans are at it again, and they’re working hard to bring the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to a vote this week. It is critical that Congress hear from you now! Please contact your Representatives and ask everyone you know to do so, too.

NCIL logo - National Council on Independent LivingA new amendment to the ACHA was introduced last week, and it’s gaining support from far-right Republicans who previously opposed the AHCA. The proposed changes make the already terrible bill even worse by stripping away even more protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The amendment would allow states to waive the Essential Health Benefits and the community rating provision, which prevents people with pre-existing conditions from having to pay higher premiums.

Again, this is on top of the other terrible things that were already in the bill, including per capita caps to Medicaid, getting rid of Medicaid expansion, ending the Community First Choice option, and implementing continuous coverage requirements. This bill will result in health care becoming less affordable and more out of reach for millions of people, and people with disabilities in particular are in danger.

This is a terrible bill that puts the disability community at risk. The changes to our health care system and Medicaid will be detrimental to people with disabilities all over the country. Please call your Representative today! You can call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to be connected to your Representative’s office.

Please see our list of Representatives deemed high priority below. If your Representative is a Republican, especially a moderate Republican, it is more important than ever that they hear from you now – so call today, call again tomorrow, and keep calling until you confirm they will vote NO on the AHCA!
