Center for Disability Rights Announces Free Our People Film Contest!

The Center for Disability Rights in Rochester, New York has announced the Free Our People Film Contest!

The Free Our People Film Contest is seeking short films (between 5 and 7 minutes) “that explore the idea of why disabled people need to be living within their communities, and not in nursing homes. [The films] will specifically be addressing the institutional bias that keeps many trapped in nursing homes.”

Each film must feature disabled actors and at least one disabled person in a major behind the scenes role (writer, editor, director, cinematographer, etc.). The film must also include two items (pineapple and pie) at some point during the film, though the items have to make sense in context. Awards include all-expenses paid trip to the film festival in Rochester, cash prizes, and writing software.

For more information, including contest rules and deadlines, go to the Free Our People Film Contest website.
