Contact Your Senators to Stop Graham-Cassidy!

A targeted Action Alert for Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia

Senate Republicans have only 9 days left to pass their latest effort to repeal/replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and radically restructure and cut Medicaid. Previous attempts in the Senate failed largely because of the disability community’s efforts, and we need to make sure the Graham-Cassidy proposal (PDF) does not succeed!

You are receiving this message because you live in a target state. That means your action is especially important to making sure this bill fails! We need you to contact your Republican Senators NOW and urge them to oppose this bill!

NCIL logo - National Council on Independent LivingLike the previous proposals from Senate Republicans, the list of harm this bill will cause is long. This latest bill will:

  • Decimate Medicaid by imposing per capita caps with steep cuts;
  • End the Community First Choice Option enhanced match;
  • Significantly raise premiums;
  • Allow states to waive the Essential Health Benefits (EHBs);
  • End federal protections for people with pre-existing conditions;
  • End Medicaid expansion;
  • Eliminate key tax credits and end cost sharing reduction payments; and
  • Result in tens of millions of people losing coverage.

This bill puts our health, independence, and lives at stake. We must stop it!

Contact your Senators now, and visit them while they’re still back home! All Senators are in their home states until Monday, so take this opportunity to visit your Senators while they’re back! And for the next nine days, make sure to keep up the pressure. Your Senators’ direct DC and local phone numbers are listed below, but every Senator’s DC office can be reached by calling the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or (202) 224-3091 (TTY). You can also contact your Senators by using Resistbot to have your texts turned into faxes, mail, or hand-delivered letters; use faxzero.com to fax your Senators for free; or contact them via social media using Contacting Congress. 1. I have a lot un anchored about this bill, is looking like another way cut Medicaid and other medical programs to the ones that need it the most. But yet our own are wanting for the VA. and other groups that need help. The trickle-down effects don’t work in the 190’s why would they work now.
    I think that the president should look at the problems in the little different way. He was handed a big mess but putting barriers out in front of the Disabled Community independent living programs.
    let us hope to educate the scenarios and Congress about what it is not to be in a nursing facility.
