Make Your Plans to Celebrate the Reintroduction of the Disability Integration Act with Us!

To celebrate the reintroduction of the Disability Integration Act, NCIL and ADAPT will be holding a celebratory event on January 15 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. We will also be making a video and audio of the introduction event available so CILs, local ADAPT chapters, and other local groups and individuals can tune in and celebrate along with us!

NCIL logo - National Council on Independent LivingThanks to the ongoing efforts of our siblings at ADAPT, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) have set January 15 as the date to reintroduce the Disability Integration Act in the new 116th Congress. This early introduction is cause for celebration, and the excitement we generate early on will help build momentum for the DIA in this new Congress. Help drive the DIA forward and secure its passage in the 116th Congress by celebrating this momentous occasion with us!

We hope CILs and NCIL members around the country will join us for this exciting day! Please see the information below on how to host in person celebrations and online watch parties, and make sure to register your events using the links below!

HOSTING AN IN PERSON CELEBRATION:

ADAPT has come up with tools and ideas to help you make your event a fun success! Check out these great suggestions on things you can do at your celebration. Then, sign up to tell us about your local in person celebration.

If you host a celebration at your organization, we will send you a video link so you can watch the reintroduction and celebrate with us from wherever you are in the world! The ASL interpreter will be visible in the video and live open captioning will be visible as well. We’ll also have a phone line with Spanish translation so that you can watch the video while listening in Spanish.

Remember, hosting an event about the introduction Disability Integration Act is not lobbying! In fact, this event would qualify as an educational event, which means nonprofits may be able to use grants or other funding sources to help pay for the local event! For example, Centers for Independent Living and other non-profits can use IL Funds to cover accommodations such as interpreters or other event costs, like food or supplies!

HOSTING AN ONLINE WATCH PARTY:

While we would LOVE for you to host a local in person celebration, if that just isn’t possible, we still want you to celebrate with us! You can be a part of this historic event by watching the reintroduction online and hosting a Facebook Watch Party! Learn more about how to host a Facebook Watch Party.
