NCIL / DOT Webinar Archive Now Available Online

Department of Transportation logoOn October 11, 2012 the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) hosted a webinar for NCIL membership. View the archived webinar online via Adobe Connect. The full transcript will be available and distributed to the NCIL membership shortly.

Cliff Perez, Chair of NCIL’s Transportation Subcommittee, worked with Richard Devylder, Senior Advisor for Accessible Transportation at DOT, to develop a webinar discussing multiple transportation issues, including the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21; P.L. 112-141), historical legislation signed by President Obama in June. Funding surface transportation programs at over $105 billion for fiscal years (FY) 2013 and 2014, MAP-21 is the first long-term highway authorization enacted since 2005.

The agenda for the call covered implementing MAP-21, Transit, Rural Transportation, Complete Streets, State of Good Repair, and Safety and Performance Measurements. There was also discussion on DOT’s regulatory and airline compliance updates. The call opened with an introduction from John Porcari, Deputy Secretary of DOT. He told us that DOT wants to continue its work and outreach to the NCIL membership and thanked us for our leadership in the area of transportation advocacy. Kelly Buckland, NCIL Executive Director, also did an introduction thanking DOT for this opportunity and especially Cliff Perez and Richard Devylder for organizing this event.

The webinar was a mixture of presentation and question and answer. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions via phone or chat.

Other speakers for the webinar were: Beth Osborne, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Policy; Blane Workie, Deputy Assistant General Counsel, OST; Livaughn Chapman, Chief, Aviation Civil Rights, OST; Greg Nadeau, Deputy Administrator, FHWA; Kate Mattice, Deputy Associate Administrator, FTA; Bonnie Graves, Attorney-Advisor, FTA; John Day, ADA Team Leader, FTA.

NCIL thanks the US DOT for the opportunity to host this wonderful event, especially Richard Devylder and our very own Cliff Perez. We look forward to continuing this working relationship with more opportunities to bring information to the membership.
