Every Center for Independent Living (CIL) should have at least one person on staff who knows the ADA inside and out, and who knows where to go for answers to questions when they come up. One of the best resources for those answers has always been your local ADA Center, which is a member of the ADA National Network.
NCIL is pleased to be co-sponsoring a webinar training series provided by the ADA National Network that will focus on the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, which finally went into effect in 2012.
This training is extremely affordable, and the webinar format lets you participate online from the comfort of your location! NCIL would love to see a representative from every CIL in the nation as we, as a community, take advantage of this opportunity to become a more powerful resource!

Ms. Nancy Horton is an Information Specialist with the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center. As the ADA was passed, Nancy worked at Centers for Independent Living advocating for access, and has provided consultations and architectural plan reviews for Eastlake, Derry & Associates.

NCIL will continue to actively pursue opportunities for collaborations with other groups and organizations to provide education on the ADA to our membership.
For a basic training / refresher course on the ADA, take the online course found at www.adabasics.org to gain a foundation of knowledge on the ADA, including the various Titles and the Definition of Disability according to the law. The self-paced course accommodates everyone’s schedule and provides a record that you completed the work. We highly recommend that Center staff take this course, either as a basic training on the ADA or as a refresher for those who have not have had formal training recently.
