Independent Living News & Policy from the National Council on Independent Living

Review NCIL’s Comments on ACL’s Proposed Rules and Submit Your Own by January 15, 2016!

NCIL’s Rehabilitation Act and Independent Living Funding Subcommittee, as well as several NCIL workgroups, have been working hard on developing comments on the Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). This NPRM addressed the Independent Living sections within the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

In a previous alert, we encouraged NCIL members to review the proposed regulations.

The intent of the changes to the Independent Living program in WIOA was to strengthen Independent Living; that is why NCIL members pushed so hard for its passage. Now we have a key opportunity to provide input on the NPRM, and with that the responsibility to ensure that the rules and regulations are in line with the law’s intent. Comments must be submitted by January 15, 2016, and it is vital that comments be submitted by members of the Independent Living community across the country. We need to make sure that our community’s voice is loud and united!

We’ve compiled NCIL’s comments, which can serve as a draft for comments you submit. Again, comments must be submitted by January 15, so please make sure to get them in as soon as possible!

Comments can be submitted online (click on the ‘Submit a formal comment’ button) or by mail to:
