Independent Living News & Policy from the National Council on Independent Living

Ring In 2017 with An End of Year Donation to NCIL!

December 21, 2016

Dear Advocates,

NCIL logo - National Council on Independent LivingYou’re busy and we know it. Your days are full of challenges small and large: budget cuts, people in crisis, discrimination, and communities that are not yet fully accessible or affordable. It’s all overwhelming, but you’re making a difference. You’re chipping away at the barriers, helping individuals change their lives for the better, and impacting your state. And that’s where we need you to focus.

Let NCIL focus on the national issues. When bills threaten our civil rights, NCIL will be there, like we were to testify against the ADA notification bills in Congress this year. When someone needs to communicate the value of Independent Living, NCIL will handle it, like our testimony to Congress for increased IL appropriations this year. When DSEs threaten SILC autonomy, NCIL will step in, like we did to get legal opinion that persuaded ACL to change its guidance on SPIL approvals. NCIL stands ready to fight for Independent Living at every turn. We will stay vigilant, take on the work, and keep you informed so you can focus on the good work you do locally.

We’re committed to this work and we need your support. As 2016 draws to a close, I hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to NCIL.

We’re still $10,000 short of our fundraising goal for this year. If each of our members gives just $10 before December 31st, we’ll meet our goal! Of course, if you can afford to give more, we very much appreciate it. NCIL is still understaffed and additional funds will enable us to hire additional policy staff to work on your policy priorities. After all, NCIL is your disability rights organization.

You can rest assured that your donation to NCIL will be well spent. Don’t take our word for it. NCIL was rated a top 5 disability nonprofit by Philanthropedia in 2013 (the latest year ratings were released). Please make a donation to NCIL today. And don’t forget to renew your membership for 2017 if you have not already. Your support and participation keeps us going. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Kelly Buckland
