This year, more states than ever before have seen physician assisted suicide legislation introduced. The National Council on Independent Living stands with all of the other national disability rights organizations that have taken a position on assisted suicide in strongly opposing these laws.

Assisted suicide laws devalue the lives of people with disabilities by reinforcing stereotypes about whose lives are worth living. We need to continue to work together against these proposed laws and remind legislators that people experiencing illness and disability should not have to die to have dignity.
