Urge Your Senators and Representatives to Co-Sponsor the Disability Integration Act!

Over the long recess, the Disability Integration Act (DIA) picked up some additional sponsors, and we want to keep up the momentum! The DIA is an important piece of legislation that addresses the fundamental issue that people who need long term services and supports (LTSS) are forced into institutions, losing their basic freedom and civil rights. This legislation establishes new federal law – similar in structure to the ADA – that requires states and insurance providers that pay for LTSS to change their policies, provide community-based services first, and offer HCBS to people currently in institutions.

We need to keep the pressure on our members of Congress to support this momentous legislation! Please contact your members of Congress and tell them to co-sponsor the Disability Integration Act (S. 2427 in the Senate, and H.R. 5689 in the House). The DIA takes the next step in our campaign to FREE OUR PEOPLE and creates a clearly articulated right to services and supports in the community. It requires public entities and insurance providers that pay for LTSS to make real and meaningful changes that support the right of people with disabilities to live in freedom – like every other American!

Please visit www.disabilityintegrationact.org for more information, and please contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to cosponsor this important legislation!
